Lithuania aims to adopt Finland’s best practices in total defence, Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said on Friday.
"Finland's experience in total defence is exceptional. We seek to adopt Finnish best practices and apply them in Lithuania to strengthen public preparedness and resilience," Budrys said.
According to the ministry, the ministers discussed bilateral relations, regional security, the defence industry, and economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Budrys said cooperation between Lithuania and Finland is dynamic, consistently strengthening, and based on shared values and strategic interests.
"Finland is a close and reliable partner for Lithuania in the European Union, a NATO ally, and an important member of the Nordic-Baltic Eight family. We are linked not only by shared values but also by common strategic goals. Our bilateral relations today are stronger than ever before," the Lithuanian foreign minister said.
Budrys also noted that with Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the Nordic-Baltic region has become a unified security space, further increasing the importance of cooperation.
Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, security coordination between NATO's eastern flank and Northern Europe has intensified.
According to Budrys, economic ties are also growing, with Finland among the largest investors in Lithuania as companies expand their operations. He also stressed the need to strengthen the regional defence industry and supply chains.
