A viral Japanese TikTok video has led to nine Lithuanian public employees footing the bill for their work trip, the prosecutor's office announced on Monday.
The case began when a video in Japan showed a conflict between a local person and a group of Lithuanian travellers, who had blocked a passageway on a train with their belongings.
However, Lithuanian prosecutors became interested for a different reason.
Opening a probe, the authorities checked whether everyone in the video had been entitled to be on the paid work trip.
They weren't, the prosecutors ruled on Monday.
Nine participants of the trip will now have to return 2,847 euros each to the Panevėžys municipality, which funded their travels.
